STORYTELLING FOR THE GREATER GOOD

your history is Our History

Why your family's story belongs in history — and how to find it and tell it.

A guide to finding the moments where your own life intersects with History — and telling them in a way that serves us all. Book one in the Storytelling for the Greater Good series.

THE SYNOPSIS

They are the moments your grandparents survived, the decisions your ancestors made, the ways ordinary life unfolded across generations. Not just personal memories, your and your family's stories are essential to understanding our collective past and charting our future. Now more than ever.

In your history is Our History, Clorisa Phillips urges readers to join her in filling the gaps in our collective past. Drawing on her work at the intersection of personal and family history and the larger arc of public History, Clo guides readers through finding the moments where their own lives and family histories intersect with history and telling those stories in ways that serve us all. This is Storytelling for the Greater Good, and this book is where it begins.

Your family holds stories that history can't afford to lose.

THE AUTHOR

Clorisa Phillips

Clorisa Phillips spent years believing that history belonged to other people — the famous, the documented, the already-remembered. Then she started asking questions about her own family, and found a different truth: the record is full of gaps, and those gaps are shaped exactly like the stories our family's already carry.

your history is Our History is what she's learned about finding them, and why they matter beyond your own family. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia and writes the newsletter Intersections, on the ordinary lives that shaped history.
